Objective

· To give skiers a tailored information service via their mobile device, with geo-location technology, a webcam, skiers’ performance stats, and a complete tourist guide

Our response

We wanted to create something totally unique here, as well as exploit the full possibilities of what we can do with an iPhone. So we came up with a range of services for the Skiplan application.

Through their mobile device, subscribers to the application can now:

· locate exactly where they are, in real-time, on a ski map (using GPS location technology) – and zoom in on any given position

· get information on local sporting activities and other events

· access addresses for local restaurants, leisure centres etc.

· calculate their speed of descent on a particular run, and track the route they’ve covered that day

· get local weather information, including precise details such as wind speed and direction

· know which slopes are open, groomed or closed

· get through to rescue services with a single click, in case of difficulty

· see a webcam in real-time of the slopes near them

· browse a shopping menu to locate and contact local shops.

This is a truly innovative application – so much so, that Apple made it one of their top 25 recommended applications. It has also featured several times in the media, in both the press and on TV.
